We spoke online with 13 second-year students from Shinagawa Jogakuin Junior High School who are conducting research on the theme of "gaining correct knowledge about menstruation and feeling closer to menstruation" in preparation for a presentation at the school festival.
This was an opportunity for the students to think about issues surrounding menstruation from various perspectives, including national and cultural, gender, regional and environmental issues.
We have received many inquiries from students who want to deepen their understanding and knowledge about menstruation.
"It's hard to talk about periods"
" There are few opportunities to talk about menstruation, and people often have incorrect knowledge about it ."
"I want to alleviate even just a little the prejudice and problems surrounding menstruation."
"I'm concerned because menstruation issues have been a hot topic recently."
Opinions such as these have been received from junior and senior high school students, and it appears that students themselves are breaking the taboo surrounding menstruation and taking action.
By considering menstruation from various perspectives and pursuing better solutions, Red Box Japan also holds lectures for students and companies, giving more students options and encouraging them to live active, fulfilling lives.
