Toita Women's Junior College's second-year students in the Food and Nutrition Department's "Beauty & Wellness Model" course have launched a joint wellness project with Red Box Japan to improve campus life for students attending Toita Women's Junior College. Red Box Japan will provide sanitary products free of charge to support students so they can attend school with peace of mind.
Starting Wednesday, April 5th, free sanitary products will be installed in the restrooms on the second floor of Toita Women's Junior College.
- The project was started by three students
The launch of this wellness project was prompted by a message from three students majoring in the "Beauty & Wellness" model in the Department of Food and Nutrition at Toita Women's Junior College. They felt that "menstruation causes a lot of stress for women due to physical and emotional changes, which limits their activities and makes it difficult for them to concentrate on their studies, causing many students to suffer," and "we want to support an environment where students can attend school with peace of mind during their period."
Meetings to prepare for the start of the project have been held since December of last year, and in March, Oguma, the representative of Red Box Japan, visited Toita Women's Junior College to explain the project to three students, discuss the installation location, and hold a final meeting regarding future operations.
■Comments from students who participated in the meeting
"Like Oguma-san, when I was in junior high school (at a co-ed school), I hid my period from my female friends and even my parents. I was embarrassed, so if I forgot my sanitary products I couldn't tell my friends, and I often couldn't go to the nurse's office and had to hold it in until I got home. However, when I started attending an all-girls school in high school, I gradually had to hold it in less and I was able to go to school with peace of mind. Based on my own experience, I believe there are many people who are concerned about how boys (men) look at them. For that reason, I felt that if people could better understand menstruation, women's embarrassment might be alleviated."
- The project will start on Wednesday, April 5th. Towards an environment where "everyone can use sanitary products as a matter of course."
